Jay G. Friedberg, M.D.
Doctor Friedberg is an ophthalmologist, specializing in the care and treatment of people with cataracts and other eye diseases. He was attracted to the field of ophthalmology because of the ability to be able to improve the life style and visual function of people. He enjoys making a measurable different in their lives.
With constantly improving technology, he is able to restore natural vision to patient impaired by cataracts. Early glaucoma detection with new instrumentation can now often prevent significant vision loss. Diabetic screenings are meticulous with a 3 dimensional contact lens view to detect early diabetic leakage and abnormal vessels.
Retinal imaging technology can now detect subtle retinal pathology such as early macular holes and retinal wrinkling.
Education & Background
He is a graduate of the Temple University School of Medicine and interned in general medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital , Abington Pennsylvania .
He served a residency in Ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University in Detroit , Michigan . He also served as staff ophthalmologist at Henry Ford Hospital In West Bloomfield, Michigan and as an emergency room physician at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook , Pennsylvania .
He is a member of the teaching faculty at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
Dr. Friedberg is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology.
He was awarded a fellowship for studies in anterior segment surgery and intraocular lens implantation with John Sheets, M.D., in Odessa , Texas . Dr. Sheets was a noted ophthalmologist who developed the Sheets lens glide used in specific types of lens implant surgery.
Dr. Friedberg is affiliated with Wills Eye Surgical Network – Bucks County, Lower Bucks Hospital, Bristol , PA , and Saint Mary Medical Center, Langhorne , PA.
Dr. Friedberg has published articles with John Sheets, M.D. in both the Archives of Ophthalmology and the American Intraocular Implant Society Journal.
Dr. Friedberg has been practicing medicine since 1975. He is married, has three children, two grandchildren, and lives in Huntingdon Valley , Pennsylvania .
